My loved ones,
i received a letter from 20–23 yesterday – and cried for joy. It is the first news that I have from you. I also received the 5 and thank you. A box of things ist mir evisiert, it is in a village 20 km from here I hope to receive it in a few days. It is so difficult with our things as most things get stolen in Moghilan-before it arrives here. If you are able to send it to Dr. Theodor Mehlmann for Dr. S. Also the things for Sidi to the same address in my name. Mehlmann and Neger are the only ones who stayed in Mog.[hilau] as head of the asylum. We could have stayed too Frit[z]i didn’t want to part with his siblings and I not with Lena and die alone. I also thought it would be an improvement here - which was a mistake.
I am nonetheless content to be here - I would not have the strength to be alone. At last we have the certainty to be able to stay here - Sidi too - it wasn’t cheap, but worth every sacrifice. If you send something to Titi Mehlm.[ann] ask for confirmation that it was received in good order. Everthing has to be sown into a sack and then sealed into a box otherwise it will get lost. My list of things I would want: a few thick candles (buy the church’s candles and break them) tea, frank-coffee, jam in a saucepan with lid, laundry soap, 2 pairs wool- or patent-stockings, red warm silk stockings, windproof size 10. Maybe 1 pair of warm slippers size 40. That would be for the 3 of us. Elly, Jeany, and I all wear the same size. Jeany does not need shoes. He has his bocaucen and I bought 1 pair of shoes cheaply. That is enough. If you have 1 pair of good bocaucen for Jean Hen. size 44 he goes around in thin shoes without snowboots, his bocaucen got stolen. You could send 1–2 pairs of full soles or wool to knit. A saucepan of goosefat would be wonderful and something sweet. We are longing for a piece of chocolate or sugar. And if you have a stew pot, put two soup or meat plates in it, a small cutting board, and a meat grinder would also be nice. Don’t send any money for now
you have sent so much and Fritz is earning. We have even managed to get a bit of plaster. Fritz needs 5 plates of pink wax, 2 plates randolfblech, 10 big randolflot, 10 big wiplalot, green stone, polishcone and brush to polish wipla. 1 bottle Sidol (also to polish.) Yes and a few brushes 1 for the floor 1 to be used as headbrush and 1 as a handbrush. And shoepolish. We are fine with everything else, of our luggage we have only lost the rucksack and a few bits and pieces (amongst them my washbasin and the broom). Irreplaceble things but we manage. Oh the most important I nearly forgot: Writing paper and couverts, postcards and plenty of fine paper or newspaper for the toilet. Cig[arettes], you can get a packet of Nation for 4 rubels. I hope Martha received my very detailed letter about everything that’s happened, as I wrote to her about our arrangements here. We have enough warm things with us. Blankets as well, when it’s not enough we put our coats over them. We are managing quite well here. Our cellar is warm despite being damp. We keep our clothes on the walls and they are less wet when we take them down. We wrap them up every day so they won’t get moldy. (The luggage was brought from Mogh.[ilau] by car - was very expensive - but what would we do without our things?) We now have 1 plank for the aunts one for Lena and Ilka. They sleep in the first room (clayfloor) Fritz sleeps on a plank in the second room with a broken wooden floor and Stuk and the children and I and Silvi on the floor. We sleep on the bare floor with the matress and Kolas blanket underneath. We have enough to cover us. We wash, iron, bake bread (we can borrow from a nice neighbourhood) in short we manage and are content. The things in the suitcase, the coats and clothes on the walls the shoes underneath the bed. Our furniture consists of 1 table and 3 chairs. During the daytime the planks serve as benches. Lighting is Nafta lamps we get Nafta (40 r.[ubles] for 1 hour) or else candles or torches. We don’t know what day it is don’t say the 1 we have to pay rent taxes light etc. Our only worry is food and fire wood. Even our newest corner in the
flat is drying slowly so that our wood to have running water in the flat - will soon be over. We have met a very pleasant and valuable acquaintance, who drops in often. We are so happy that Martha has delivered our petition. Our friend will spend his Christmas holidays in Buc[arest] and deliver our petition at the correct address. The misery that sorrounds us is dreadful. The Dorohoier re off worse. Only the poor are here they sleep in open broken houses und there are dead from starvation and frost every day. One has to write to the Jewish Community Orgaization Dorohi to send money for their people. To Jean who is head of the Cimpolungs or Dr Teich head of the Suceavan and they help as much as they can. They can’t do a lot because they have to support their own poor. Jonas Wager is here and he lives off 1/4 loaf of bread given by the Jewish Community Organization. Are you in touch with A., the little bag I was given at Jeany’s birth is with him and the bits of coat and similar things. Kolas coat, Sidis things, Manus suit and many of my things are at Karl Kesslers. How was a flat after the weeklong absences? Does Kola have wood and everything she prepared for winter? Have you heard from the elders? When are we going to be together again? Children I would write volumes if I had a notebook. Talking of which please some ink. And some Sauersalz [Note: Citric acid, or cream of tartar] and Bicarb. And the following drugs. Injections: Morphine, Camphor 0.2 [Note: pain-relieving medication or ointment], Essigsaure Tonerde tablets [Note: a cream for bruises and sprains], Aspirin, lots of Chini, Salicil tablets, Damatrol powder, Rubiazol, Vaselin, Mentol Vaselin.

Many thanks in advance. Send it by courier when you get the opportunity. I think Hedy wrote to you. We are living together and support each other – it makes life less bitter.
