Scan of a letter from Transnistria to Bukovina, brought by Dr. Albert Twers

Mogilow, 14/12/1941
Dear Mrs. Captain Alpetri!
You are probably wondering why I’m turning to you to ask for help. But at the same time I know that you will definitely help me because you are indeed the kindest person. I’ve already written several letters to my cousin and his wife (Rudolf Liwornik and Henriette) but haven’t received any response. You can imagine how desperate I have to be to bother you by asking you to be so kind as to go and look for my cousin in my house in Stefan cel Mare 34, if he is still there and to tell him that there would certainly be an opportunity for him to help me, an opportunity just like the one you kindly took when you passed on kind regards to a lady the other day. Otherwise I’d to starve to death here with my old Cadisme. There is almost no food that can be exchanged for money, not to mention what would happen if you were unlucky enough to be robbed of all of your coats, Katum dresses and bedding in this place, as well as your money. We can’t even get potatoes or corn flour. If the situation goes on like this, I will have to poison myself, something I unfortunately didn’t do at home.
At least he could send me bacon, cooking fat, butter, sausages and canned food; I mean non-perishable food, as I haven’t come across any of those things since I left home. I wouldn’t have to turn to my cousin if I hadn’t left him all my supplies at home, such as flour, vegetables, etc. If I had all these things here, I would be happy because I wouldn’t have to go hungry. Here, a loaf of bread costs 300-400 lei. Where am I supposed to get that sort of money from?
How are you? Where is your husband? Is your son in Bucharest? It’s a shame I can’t be there to make the cream for you. Perhaps I’ll be lucky enough to return home alive and make it up to you. Perhaps you can also inform my sister Kaka Schaffer in Chernivtsi, Str. Mutercanul 4 that I’m here. Kind regards and thanks a million for your kindness
