Scan of a letter from Transnistria to Bukovina, brought by Dr. Albert Twers

December the 14th
My Loved Ones!
It has been nearly 2 weeks since we had any mail from you, so we are very worried. Since you left, we have been experiencing such shortage of food that nothing is available except in exchange for cloth or soap or old clothes. – It is incredibly hard for us to provide for our daily nourishment. – Perhaps you could send us old stuff and soap of lower quality that we could barter. Teiti is obliged to pay off Bertl’s debts to Hass . Hass should return the 3 meters of yarn to Lazar – but claims to have sold it for 890 leu per meter, and now he only wants to reimburse it bit by bit – which violates the agreement. Today Teiti went back home, and will contact you and probably assign you something as he took away things himself and is therefore liable. He will either tell you in person or otherwise write. – A piece of cloth like this costs 850-875 leu, but I don’t have the money to buy it. I urgently expect that of you as well as of Jacob and Lazar. – I need that now in order to provide myself with food etc. – I ask you to send everything to me through the messenger advocate Mr Alb. T., and maybe food too. – The many canned goods, which you were only told to [XXX], are causing me inconveniences, I´m held responsible for everything –. For example, instead of money Sandler von Retta was supposed to get the same amount of feathers [to Josef only] . I left that to Sandler to sort out.
