Scan of a letter from Transnistria to Bukovina, brought by Dr. Albert Twers

Translation by the Romanian Gendarmerie

Mr. Margulies
(Radauti)
Dear Mr. Margulies,
Dr. Schwitzer has probably informed you about the issue concerning the Constable Corporal Haralambie Vasilco and has surely shown you the letters to Vasilco and to Dr. Chirila. Before the evacuation I handed Mr. Vasilco 1000 Dollars (one housand Dollars) in addition to 500.000 Lei (five hundred thousand Lei) in a parcel that was sealed later on. In Dornesti I handed him from the train the further sum of 80.000 Lei (eighty thousand Lei). In addition Mr. Vasilco was handed textiles and clothes valued at 200 – 250.000 Lei, a gold watch, a cigarette case made out of silver, and other valuable household items for storage. Due to Mr. Vasilco’s lasting silence, I suspect dishonorable motives, would you please be kind enough and do everything within your power to get the money out of him. It should be noted that I initially wanted to change the money into Rubels, when Mr. Vasilco discouraged that and persuaded me to leave the money with him. Leave 50.000 as compensation for Mr. Vasilco and take the remaining money. Keep also 50.000 Lei (fifty thousand Lei), Mr. Margulies, for your trouble and then send me the remaining sum of 480.000 Lei (four hundred and eightythousand through a courier, who is absolutely to be trusted. Apart from that I will hand over the sum of 20.000 Lei to Mr. Münzer or some other person from your family to be determined by you. Mr. Vasilco was given 2 silver bangles and other jewellery for safekeeping. I trust you
