My darlings!
I tried to send you some news about how I’m doing but I can see you haven’t received any. My first concern is for dear Lotti – how is she? Has she given birth yet? Is it a boy or a girl? What is dear father doing? There’s no need for me to try to describe to you, mother, Rosa, Markus and last of all to you, Livi, my dear boy, how I’m doing here because you just can’t describe it on paper. As you can imagine, if I get something to eat every other day, I’m satisfied. My wife and I are living in separate houses now and she is living alone. And there are no prospects for work or for earning anything. But I pray to God that I’ll see you again, and as soon as possible. I live with the single hope of seeing you again, and with it I hope to pull through. My darlings! You are lucky to have stayed behind. You should kiss the floor of your house every day in gratitude for the fact that you stayed. Blanka along with Sigmund and the children are here as well, as is the father with his children and grandchildren. If you do have the chance to help anyone, help by sending them lei. I hope, God willing, to see you this month. I ask around the others every day. A message would give me peace and the strength to live. That’s why I’m asking you to write me how you all are.
