My dears,
We are in Moghilow, that we reached with only the things we could carry with our hands. The money is nearly used up, the children have lost a lot of weight and Nelly has been ill for more than 4 weeks. Please reply once you have haded over my brother’s compliments. Please send us “Tonicum Ros”, 1 kg apples, and a few dekagrams of tea. Nelly desperately needs that as she too weak to carry herself. At Carniceru I have a scarf that I gave to Mrs. Weinstein. Please take the money and anything else you can spare and send it at the first possible opportunity. We do not even have enough bread here.
We pay 3 – 400 Lei for one. Sugar and semolina would be good, there is nothing at the market. I could make something out of semolina for Nelly, cornbread is very difficult to find. The chances are we will all die of hunger.
