Scan of a letter from Transnistria to Bukovina, brought by Dr. Albert Twers

Mogilow, December 14 Dear
Mr. and Mrs. Schädel! (brewery) Radautz
I’ve already had opportunities to send letters through the postal service, to you, to Mr. Feld, Stern as well as to the company, but so far I haven’t received a single reply. – But you may know how we are here. If there’s no real change anytime soon, then we really will be in dire streets. Until now, food has been dreadfully expensive but somehow we still managed to lay our hands on some; but for a few days we haven’t been able to get anything in exchange for money. Food is only exchanged for clothes, soap, etc. I lost all my parcels upon arriving here (they were stolen from me) so I have nothing to trade with. – But there’s nothing much I can do about that. – Mrs. Stern’s parents are in a small town called „Scharograd“. If I’m somehow able to get in touch with them, I will do so. I wrote a letter about this to Mrs. Stein, by the way. – The Rosenmanns, Ausländers and Weissbrods are here. Do you by any chance have any news from Fil Katz? Please give me her address if you know it. How are your little children?

Now, Mrs. Schädel, please go to Mrs. Halip (Brauhausgasse ) and tell her that we, my sister too, are here and ask her to keep hold of the things from Zenigold. Maybe God will help me escape from here and if so, she will definitely not get a raw deal. Under no circumstances should she decide on what to do with the things until we have taken care of things from here. – As hard as it may be for me to do so, I really must ask you and Mrs. Feld to send me a parcel of food, if you can. – Maybe one day I will be able to thank you for it. We’re just so hungry here. I’d really ask you to help me with something. I would never turn to anyone with such a request, but my child’s life is at stake. I’m already very thankful for everything you’ve done for us. You should thank God that you’ve been spared from a fate like ours. Send my love to everyone who remembers me.
Kind regards,
Lotte Deutsch
