Scan of a letter from Transnistria to Bukovina, brought by Dr. Albert Twers

Dear Mr Evulet,
I’ve written letters to you as well as to Mr. Stern and Mr. Schädl and so far I haven’t received any answer. Have you all forgotten me? We are in an awful state here, we’re enduring tremendous suffering, we have no food and are freezing to death. I’ve sold almost all my belongings because everything is terribly expensive here. One little loaf of bread is 50 rubles, 1 kg of corn flour 70 rubles, 1 kg cooking fat 100 rubles. You can’t imagine what we are going through here.
What happened to my flat and my belongings? Who is living in my flat? And have you kept my 2 boxes safe? I beg you; please tell me everything.

If it is somehow possible to send me a food parcel via a German car, please do so. Sugar, tea, coffee, beans, corn flour, and also speak to Mr. Schädl and Mr. Stern, maybe they can lend me a few thousand. Perhaps one day I will have the opportunity to repay it in thanks. Otherwise we’re going to perish here. I also beg you to talk to Mr. Vasileu about it. I’ve written to him as well without receiving any answer. Please tell me how things are going in the brewery and if they are producing much. I’d be very happy to receive some good news. Is the brewery going well and is the liqueur factory finally working and where? If Mr. Schädl is living in my flat, I would be very pleased.

It would mean that at least my things are in good hands. – I beg you as well as Mr. Vasileu and Mr. Stern, perhaps with the agreement of Director Apart, to whom I send kind regards, to make sure that a delegation of our best workers goes and sees the Prefect with a petition to ask him for my authorization to return home. Please emphasize in the petition that, during my 22-year term of service in the brewery I’ve always been a loyal friend, helper and advisor, and I’m sure that if a diligent worker or Mr. Vasileu advances this request with simple words to the Prefect, you will be able to get me out of here.
I look forward to your immediate answer and send kind regards, your [signature]

Perhaps to all my colleagues as well as to all workers who would like to help me.
